Handbuilding Classes
Come make something with your hands!
My small-group pottery workshops take place in my studio in Atlanta — no experience needed, just curiosity and a willingness to get a little messy.
Each class is limited to 8 people so everyone gets real time and attention.
You’ll end up with a piece you made yourself, and I’ll bisque fire, glaze, and glaze fire it for you. Finished work is ready for pickup 3–5 weeks after class.
Handbuilt Textured Mug
Learn the satisfying basics of handbuilding with clay — no wheel required.
Duration: 3 hours
Price: $75 per person
Skill level: No experience needed
What’s included: All clay, tools, glazing, and firing.
What to bring: Clothes you don’t mind getting clay on.
In this two-hour class, you’ll build a mug entirely by hand using slab construction, then press textures and patterns into the surface before attaching a pulled handle. The result is a mug with real character: sturdy, one-of-a-kind, and made entirely by you.
We’ll cover how to prepare and condition clay, roll and cut even slabs, score and slip pieces together securely, and add surface texture with found objects and stamps. You’ll leave with an unfired mug, and I’ll take it through glazing and a final firing. Finished mugs are ready for pickup in 3–5 weeks.
Mug with Your Own Monoprinted Design
This class brings two art forms together.
Duration: 3 hours
Price: $75 per person
Skill level: No experience needed
What’s included: All clay, tools, glazing, and firing.
What to bring: Clothes you don’t mind getting clay on.
You’ll start by forming a mug out of a clay slab. While that is setting up, we will turn our attentions to creating a monoprint — a one-of-a-kind print made on newsprint using underglazes. Once both pieces are ready, you will transfer your image directly onto the mug. The result is a piece where mark-making and handbuilding meet, with a graphic quality you can’t get any other way.
Each monoprint is unique by definition — there’s no second print exactly like the first. We’ll cover the printmaking process, transferring the image to clay while preserving the detail, and building your mug. I’ll glaze and fire your piece for pickup in 3–5 weeks.
Face Goblet
Face goblets are one of my signature pieces — functional vessels with expressive, hand-sculpted faces
Duration: 3 hours
Price: $80 per person
Skill level: No experience needed
What’s included: All clay, tools, glazing, and firing.
What to bring: Clothes you don’t mind getting clay on.
In this three-hour class, you’ll build your own face goblet from scratch using slab and coil techniques, then sculpt a face into the surface that’s entirely your own. No two ever come out the same.
We’ll work through building the goblet form, creating and attaching a foot ring, and the face sculpting process — eyes, nose, lips, the works. I’ll guide you through each step, but the face you make will be unmistakably yours. I’ll glaze and fire your piece, and it’ll be ready for pickup in 3–5 weeks.
Face Planter
Face planters are the piece I’m most known for, and this is my most immersive class.
Duration: 4 hours
Price: $95 per person
Skill level: No experience needed
What’s included: All clay, tools, glazing, and firing.
What to bring: Clothes you don’t mind getting clay on.
Over four hours, you’ll build a face planter entirely by hand — starting with slabs and coils to build the form, sculpting expressive facial features, and adding drainage for a real, functional planter. It’s part sculpture, part vessel, and completely yours.
We’ll take it step by step: building the cylinder form with textured slabs and coils, refining the walls, sculpting the face (eyes, nose, mouth, ears — yes, ears), adding a drainage hole, and finishing the surface. There’s enough time to go slowly and get the details right. I’ll glaze and fire your planter, and it’ll be ready for pickup in 3–5 weeks.

FAQs
What happens to my piece after class?
You’ll leave your piece with me at the end of class. I will monitor the drying process and bisque fire your piece. Then I will glaze your piece on your behalf — you can choose colors before you go — and fire it in my kiln. Finished pieces are ready for pickup 4-6 weeks later. I’ll email you when yours is ready.
